Florida A&M University held its fall convocation Friday with interim president Castell Bryant as the guest speaker.
Hundreds of students showed up at Gaither Gymnasium for the first convocation of the year.
Bryant told the audience the convocation must symbolize the end of the old system and the beginning of something great, and she encouraged them to focus on truth, honesty and integrity.
Castel Bryant said, "We can no longer blame anyone for what's happened to us. We must assume responsibility for our own future and we've got to meet the standards. We have to adhere to the rules. We can't make excuses.”
Bryant also wants the university to be competitive by doing groundbreaking research. She says the greatest challenge for faculty and students is to address FAMU's weaknesses and enhance the school's strengths.
