A Thomas County jailer is arrested and charged with two felonies involving a relationship with an inmate.
Investigators say Beverly Simmons was interviewed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and came clean about her relationship with a male prisoner involving hugging, kissing and fondling.
The Sheriff's Office says they don't believe the two had sex. They add the relationship had been going on for several weeks.
CAPT John Richards of the Thomas County Sheriff's Office says, "With that information we charged her with one count of violation of oath of office and sexual assault on a person in custody."
The captain adds these charges are felonies and Simmons could face up to five years in prison for each charge. The captain says Simmons had been working at the jail for almost two years and had never been in trouble.
