It's homecoming weekend for FAMU, and Friday the Rattlers received some much needed good news about finances.
FAMU higher-ups have decided to reinstate four sports previously cut because of a budget shortfall. The announcement was made at the school's homecoming convocation.
With cheering and applauding from the crowd, FAMU will be restoring is because of an $8 million budget surplus.
Interim President Dr. Castell Bryant gave the news to a packed house at the Gaither Gym for Friday’s convocation.
Alumni young and old were in attendance along with fraternities and sororities decked out in their official colors.
The choir was singing and the band playing, all celebrating FAMU's financial move from red to black.
Dr. Castell says, We're required to start the year with a balanced budget and we had to cut the sports in order to do that, but now that we've gotten our financial statement for the year we have money to bring forward and some of that is continuing funds. We're going to restore the sports."
Of course, convocation is just one of the many homecoming events leading up to Saturday’s game.
