Lowndes County commissioners recently passed a new burning ordinance. It will limit the burning of yard debris to the first and third Saturday of every month.
Commissioners approved the new ordinance in response to residents who complained about all the smoke.
Chief Jim Fielding of Lowndes County Fire Rescue says, "I just want the citizens to know that we're working very diligently to give them a clean atmosphere and a clean environment that on most days they can go out in the back yard, have family activities without being hindered by smoke."
Right now officials are just warning residents about the new ordinance, but enforcement will begin November 1.
