For several years, the Azalea City has been upgrading its traffic management system and looking at better road management.
While the plan has kept cars and trucks moving, engineers say more work remains to be done to prevent future congestion from causing problems.
Von Shipman, a Valdosta city engineer, says, "We're trying to stay on top of all the technology and the changes that are coming out. We want to be right on the edge. We don't want to wait until we have congestion and problems before we take action."
Valdosta's high-tech traffic light system, which is digitally connected to a traffic control center, should be fully installed by the end of the year.
