Lowndes County has a new ordinance regarding outdoor burning, both from a safety and a health perspective.
Lowndes County commissioners recently approved a new county-wide ordinance. It impacts when residents can and cannot burn debris in their yard.
The county says the change comes in response to numerous complaints from residents who have health concerns and safety issues.
Officials realize the smoke will worsen two Saturdays each month, but hope the overall condition will improve.
Lowndes County Fire Rescue plans to notify all the affected neighborhoods about the new ordinance and when burning is permitted. Official enforcement of this new ordinance will begin on November 1.
