A nearly three foot deep sinkhole opened up in front of a south side Winn-Dixie on Sunday.
The property manager says a broken water line caused the hole with more damage extending out several feet.
Fixing the problem means digging up the lot, patching up the line, and repaving, which is sure to disrupt traffic to the store.
Betty Popow, Property Manager, says, "It definitely is going to affect Winn-Dixie business and that's why we're trying to get this taken care of a soon as we can."
The property manager estimates fixing the parking lot will take at least several weeks. The cost of repairs could run into the tens of thousands of dollars.
