Often times, drug abuse and criminal behavior go hand in hand. Officials fight the battle against addiction in hopes to solve other problems as well.
That's the plan at the Treatment Center of Valdosta. They recognize that relationship and want to put an end to it.
Dr. Alan Folsom says, "In a lot of cases treatment should greatly outweigh the need for jail time. I think we can keep a lot of people out of our local jails and court systems just by mandating treatment for these patients."
The U.S. Department of Health proclaimed September the National Alcohol and Drug Recovery Month.
