All the scams are aimed at hitting those with open hearts in the pocketbook. There are ways to protect yourself.
Tallahassee police say right now, there are about 200 bogus Hurricane Katrina donation Web sites. The sites may ask for detailed personal information such as your Social Security or banking pin number.
Authorities say stay clear of sites ending in numbers. Go to the site yourself. Don't use sites which come to you via Email.
Police also urge you to be leery of those who contact you by phone or online claiming to be a victim of the hurricane and asking for money.
