Commissioner John Winn is saying the standard $56 application certification fee will be waived for teachers coming from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
Those teachers impacted by the storm will be able to continue their careers through a simplified transition process once their certifications are verified in their home state.
Jennifer Fennell, spokesperson for the Florida Department of Education, says, "We know that there are a lot of students and a lot of teachers coming to Florida and to other states, and waving the fee is just one small way the department can help those teachers displaced by Hurricane Katrina continue their career in Florida."
This announcement comes as reports out of New Orleans are saying teachers there will not get paid for periods after Hurricane Katrina because there is no money in the city's school system.
