Airlines File for Bankruptcy

Delta and Northwest Airlines are both seeking protection from creditors citing fuel costs, heavy debt and pension obligations.

Delta says passengers should not feel any immediate effects.

Delta promises to honor all tickets and is sending a letter to frequent-flier customers reassuring them.

Delta and Northwest are the third and fourth major carriers to file Chapter 11 since 2001, behind United and U.S. Airways.
