Forty-seven-year old Doctor M. Rony Francois is replacing Dr. John Agwunobi, who is joining the Bush Administration in Washington.
Dr. Francois, who is a practicing Catholic, says his personal beliefs on abortion will not influence his role as head of the state health department.
"If someone is interested in abstinence, we have educational materials for that. If a parent is interested in sex education, then that parent will also have the appropriate materials from the department of health."
Dr. Francois is currently an assistant professor at the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health. He began his educational career at Tallahassee Community College 25 years ago.
