The checks are required as part of the Jessica Lunsford Act. Now the state Department of Law Enforcement is setting up a statewide database so counties can share information and save money.
Governor Jeb Bush says counties should also be working together. "Most school districts should be able to do this amongst themselves. The problem has arisen where some districts have not cooperated and shared information. There may liability issues we may need to look at, but the implementation of this needs to be done in a way that protects children."
