It's official, the Tallahassee Fire Department has a new chief.
Contract negotiations are now complete and CAPT Cindy Dick will soon be sworn in. She has been with the Tallahassee Fire Department for more than 18 years.
This is a unique time for her to step in as chief. Among her first duties will be to fill several vacancies and soon-to-be vacancies since a number of firefighters are on the verge of retirement.
She says she's ready for the challenge.
Cindy says, "We've got a number of things to work on. We've got to settle our labor union contracts, we want to get our work force settled, happy and ready to move towards the future."
Dick is the department's first female fire chief. She will be sworn in next Wednesday, but her first day on the job will be Monday.
