The search is on for the suspects responsible for the murder of five people, and the assault of six more in south Georgia. The region has been shocked by a trail of death between the city of Tifton and Colquitt County.
What is known is that five people were killed during what local investigators believe was a string of robbery attempts. The five deceased were immigrants from Mexico, but right now, investigators are not classifying this as a hate crime.
Early reports say the attackers were armed with baseball bats, but one incident ended in gunfire. People living in the Tifton neighborhood refused to go on camera, but did say they are shocked by the extreme brutality of the attacks.
Colquitt County Sheriff Al Whittington told the associated press these deadly attacks may be linked to other recent robberies committed against the area's migrant workers.
Because there were five deaths and six additional assaults, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case, but will continue to work with local law enforcement agencies.
If you have any information about this gruesome sting of murders and attacks, please call your local police or the Georgia Bureau of Investigation at 404-244-2600.
