Bike Sales Up as Gas Prices Soar

Bike sales here at home and across the county have skyrocketed.

The Sunshine Cycle Shop on Capital Circle reports an almost 25 percent increase in sales compared to the same time last year.

And the shop owner says pain at the pumps is not the only reason for the spike in sales.

"Certainly gas prices haven't hurt. Armstrong’s success at the tour is residuous as an interest. There is a general interest in health just exercise,” explains bike shop owner Ed Holt.

Our cameras caught up with one man who chooses to commute to work by bike once a week.

He says he enjoys riding 19 miles each way which takes about an hour and that he looks forward to the exercise.
