Licensed Midwifery Month

Numbers show more and more women are choosing midwives to help them through their pregnancy.

In 1963 there were only 535 nurse-midwives in America. This year, a national survey reported more than 7,000. Licensed midwives believe the trend is due to the one-on-one attention women receive throughout their entire pregnancy.

"That sense of familiarity gives her a sense of well being. Whenever a woman feels relaxed her progress of labor tens to be easier for her."

This is National Licensed Midwifery Week. The first documented formal midwifery training program dates back to the biblical days.
