It's hard to believe, but studies show 800,000 children miss school each week because they're afraid of being bullied.
In fact, more than half say they witness bullying at least once a week.
The FAMU elementary education professor wrote a book including the topic of bullying. He says the numbers don't surprise him, and he encourages parents to get involved.
Dr. Manson says, "Number one, appear at the school, show up to the school. Now that may annoy some administrators and teachers, but come to the school and see your child in action and what's going on at the school."
Here are the warning signs for bullying: unexplained cuts, bruises or damaged clothing, fear of going to school, drop in grades, low self-esteem and depression.
