Peanut Shelling Plant Opens in Tifton

Tifton Quality Peanuts opened their $52 million plant with a celebration.

More than 200 people gathered for the grand opening. The plant holds the most modern shelling technology in the world, including the domes that keep the peanuts as fresh as the day they were picked.

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue praised the peanut farmers and the plant.

Gov. Sonny Perdue said, "We knew we grew the best peanuts and it's good to be able to process the peanuts the best, and that's what this facility does- world class shelling."

Larry Lemley, President/CEO of Tifton Quality Peanuts, said, "There is absolutely nothing close to what we have here in Tifton."

Overseas inspectors agree. After visiting the plant, they complimented the state of the art technology and efficiency.
