Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood is stepping down.
Hood gave no reason for her departure, other than to say the time is right to return home and explore new opportunities.
Hood has been secretary since December of 2002 and had to oversee the first election since the botched 2000 presidential contest.
It went off smoothly, with high voter turnout, but there was plenty of debate over a statewide felon list, and the lack of a paper trail for certain voting systems.
Hood is stepping down effective November 21 to return to Orlando.
