Morgan Quitno Press is a non-partisan organization that looks at city, state and federal statistics.
It found Florida ranking 50 out of 50 states this year, compared to 45 back in 1998.
While Democrats are blaming Gov. Bush, the state Department of Education says its own numbers paint a different picture.
Jennifer Fennell says, “We have a very different way that we calculate our graduation rates that aren’t based on estimations. They actually track every single child, so we’re very confident in knowing that our calculations are very accurate and we have an 11 percent increase from about 60 to 71 percent since 1998.”
The state says it includes the number of students who receive GEDs in its graduation statistics.
