Ferman Richardson is a 16-year veteran who's worked for the City of Quincy training other officers.
Richardson was one of 10 applicants vying for the position of top lawman in Gretna.
The chief already has a plan in place to turn the department around.
Ferman says, "As a law enforcement officer I really want to see the citizens and law enforcement come together. Community is that way, so really want to see a concerted effort in Gadsden County to bring the crime rate down and make it a safe place to live."
Gretna city officials will be hosting a meet and greet this coming Saturday to give residents a chance to voice their concerns to the new chief.
