The armory at Tom Brown Park is transformed into a dance hall.

Hundreds dance the night away to the sounds of big band. Many came out to the rotary club's third annual USO dance dressed in World War II era clothing.

Others dressed in their military uniforms. Organizers say it gives veterans an opportunity to recall memories and honor other service men and women, and others a chance to learn about World War II history.

"It's not just a day off. It's a day to remember those that have served and those that have served and died," said Dennis Fiorini from the Sunrise Rotary Club.

The event also gave veterans and their wives a chance to mingle. Grace Franklin-Manassa, who's married to a veteran, says she and her husband came to get in the swing of things.

"The dancing, the dancing of course, and the socializing with other veterans and their wives and their families, and meeting a lot of new people."

Proceeds from the event go to the Rotary Club's charities of choice such as the construction of a new playground at Tom Brown Park and the rebuilding of a school in Jamaica.
