A man accused of robbing and beating a 96-year-old woman in her own home is now facing attempted murder charges.
Thirty-nine-year-old Vertice Robinson was wanted for the attack in Ocala and turned himself in in Tallahassee this past weekend. Detectives from Ocala have now come to Tallahassee to interview him and formally charge him.
SGT Chris Chase with the Leon County Sheriff's Office says, "After the interviews, they were able to charge Vertice Robinson with attempted murder. He did in fact confess to the beating of the 96-year-old woman, and had made statements along the line he was not sure she was alive when he left."
Robinson has family in our area. The elderly woman's stolen car was found abandoned in Perry and her purse was found off Interstate 10 in Monticello.
Robinson will soon be taken back to Ocala to face charges.
