BETHANY BEACH, Del. (AP) -- The Coast Guard says a crew member jumped from a tanker to his death off the coast of Delaware after a stabbing that left a man dead and another person injured.
The Daily Times of Salisbury, Maryland reports the violence happened late Thursday off Bethany Beach, in international waters.
The newspaper quoted Coast Guard officials as saying that the people involved were foreign nationals. Hong Kong authorities and the U.S. State Department are investigating.
Coast Guard spokesman Nick Ameen says authorities responded to a report of a stabbing aboard the Hong Kong-based Genco Challenger early Friday. Two people were flown to hospitals with stab wounds, and one later died.
The body of the crew member was found Friday afternoon, less than a mile from the vessel.
