A taxpayer watchdog group says you should do a little research before signing any petitions to get questions on the 2006 ballot.
TaxWatch is campaigning against two proposed amendments to the state Constitution that would repeal hundreds of sales tax exemptions unless lawmakers vote to keep them in place.
Other services would be taxed unless the Legislature specifically exempts them.
Dominic Calabro with TaxWatch says, "We believe it's important for people to know what they may be even signing, ok, to the extent to which they have a better idea if they’re going to sign petitions. The more they know what they’re signing, the better it is.”
The group pushing for the amendments calls itself "FAIR," or Floridians Against Inequalities in Rates. FAIR says the state’s tax code hasn't been rewritten since 1949 and lawmakers have refused to address the issue.
