He died Monday night and Tallahassee police are now trying to track down his killer. Police are still gathering information, connecting the dots, trying to solve their tenth murder case of this year.
Police found the man lying on the ground and slightly drunk around the 400 block of West Georgia Street near Carter Howell Strong Park.
At the time he told police that robbers beat him up and took his cigarettes and some cash. When he died Monday night the robbery case police thought they had turned into a homicide.
One theory is that a fellow homeless person killed the man.
John Newland with the Tallahassee Police Department says, "Nowadays, especially this time of year, people want money. People want their beverages and everything else so they're going to do whatever it takes to get it and I think that's one of those cases here.”
Police though certainly not ruling out other motives just yet. They say the murder victim was well known to those in the area and investigators believe they will eventually solve this case.
Police still have not released the identity of the man that will happen once his family is notified. One homeless woman who hangs around the park says people are robbed in that area all the time.
