The Florida Commission on Human Relations is reporting a higher number of discrimination complaints this year. However, staff say the reason most likely has to do with more awareness.
The commission focuses on informing workplaces and organizations about diversity and discrimination. General Counsel Cecil Howard believes the overall response has been positive.
Howard says, "People now have more of an open mind about these issues, not as much mystique. It's out on the table a little more now, more out in the open now."
The FCRH is hosting its second annual "Diversity Dinner" December 5 in downtown Tallahassee. The event will include roundtable discussions on a variety of issues.
