Brendan Maddox, Kenneth Nightengale and Dexter Fields are arrested after staging a robbery at the very place they work: Backyard Burgers on West Tennessee Street.
Former manager Brendan Maddox actually called police to report he was beaten and robbed.
"Something just didn't jive with the investigator, so they started looking into more into it and he ultimately just caved in and said what happened," said Tallahassee Police OFC John Newland.
He says the suspects entered through the back gate where deliveries usually come, then grabbed money from the safe and ripped out the store's surveillance camera so they wouldn't be caught on tape. Employees who knew the suspects say they are very surprised they would commit such a crime.
"Kenneth was a guy I worked with before and he was a good worker, always on time and knew his job. Dexter was a serious guy. I was talking to him all the time. He always wanted to learn more and know more, so to me, I was just surprised to see that," said manager Peter Rittman II.
Thomas Ferguson II, who works in the kitchen, was surprised to learn his friend and manager came up with the whole plan.
"I was like, 'that's surprising and everything 'cause he ain't come off like that kind of person.'"
Managers here now say they'll keep a closer watch on all the employees.
"I hate to look at them harder now, but you have to make sure we get our job done right," said Rittman.
The owner of Backyard Burgers is says he was surprised and that all of them were very hard workers. In fact, one was up for a promotion, and another up for a raise.
