Members of the Florida Consumer Action Network were dressed in holiday gear, sending a message to lawmakers. They were handing out stockings with gifts to two Senate members who voted against a phone rate hike that went into affect last month.
But they also had a list of “naughty” legislators receiving lumps of coal for approving the massive rate increase.
The advocates say their fight is not over yet.
Walter Dartland with the Florida Consumer Action Network says, “We are going to go after some repeal, take a look at repeal of some of the most egregious parts of that legislation which doesn’t allow for any oversight of quality of service."
The largest rate hike in the state’s history was approved two years ago after lawmakers passed the bill allowing the increase. It’s aimed at increasing competition and ultimately bringing down rates.
