A local church is tackling the problem of diabetes and obesity. Specifically targeting the African-American community, the Anderson Chapel AME Church is hosting a workshop.
It will feature health experts, researchers and advocates.
Speaker Victor Muhammad will focus partly on genetics.
Muhammad says, "Our genetic makeup is not designed to handle that much starch because the Asian community eats starch daily and they don't have a problem with diabetes nor do they have a problem with overweight."
The free workshop is this Saturday at 10 a.m. For more information, call 850-513-1675.
