The Big Bend's newest circuit judge was sworn in Friday afternoon.
Thirty-seven-year-old Angela Dempsey donned her black robe Friday afternoon in an investiture ceremony in the Leon County Courthouse rotunda.
Dempsey was appointed by the governor to fill a newly created judgeship in the second circuit. She'll start her work in juvenile court.
Angela Dempsey says, "I'm really excited about that. I just want to be a fair judge, fairly apply the law to the facts of each case and not impose my personal opinions, just focus on the law."
Dempsey was an assistant state attorney in Orlando and has worked as an attorney for two state agencies. The chief judge is hoping the Legislature will fund one more judge in the spring.
