Area law enforcement officials gain a new tool in fighting environmental crimes.
The new environmental crime complex located at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy will be a training ground for those who specialize in combating chemical and bio-hazardous emergencies.
Officials with the academy call it a unique asset.
"This is the only environment training site in Florida. The closes one to it is the federal training site in Brunswick, Georgia," says Grea Bevis with the Department of Environmental Protection.
As an added bonus is CSX Transportation donated a tanker railcar to the center to help educate emergency response personnel with simulations related to the railways.
