Florida Mayor of the Year Award

A local mayor receives a huge pat on the back.

Delores Madison, Mayor of Midway, Florida, has been named 2005 Mayor of the Year by the Florida League of Cities.

Mayor for three years, Madison says when she came into the job the city was in a state of financial emergency, but now with new development and jobs in the area, things are looking up.

"For a little city of our size, when we only have 1,500 residents here in our area, to beat out the mayors of Saint Petersburg and Destin, it was just overwhelming," says Madison, who was also named Municipal Official of the Year by the Northwest Florida League of Cities for 2005.
