Early Voting Still Going Strong on Eve of Election

Updated: Tue 11:22 AM, Feb 04, 2003

Candidates for Mayor and Tallahassee City Commission are getting in last minute campaigning and hand shaking ahead of Tuesday’s election. But, many ballots are already in.

Early voting counters have been open at the Leon County Courthouse since Jan. 27. Elections Supervisor Ion Sancho said so far, more than 1,800 people have cast ballots, and about 40 percent of those have been FSU and FAMU students.

Twenty-five percent of the city's more than 83,000 registered voters will head to the polls Tuesday. In contrast, Sancho said there was a 70 percent turnout when the city elections were moved to November.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. We'll have complete returns on Eyewitness News at 11.
