Holiday shoppers aren't just casing the halls of the malls this time of year. Many customers are also beginning the gym search.
JR Kelly with the Florida Division of Consumer Services wants to encourage people to read contracts carefully and understand you do have 72 hours to cancel after signing.
Also, visit the gym during the time frame you plan to work out.
Kelly says, "Often people go by in the mid afternoon. They join, but they want to use it at 5:30 or 6 p.m. Then they go by and find out it is so crammed packed full of people and they can't get to machines or free weights."
Kelly suggests you also call the department's hotline to make sure the health club is registered with the state and find out how many complaints, if any, it has received. That number is 1-800-HELP-FLA.
