Sporting Goods Store Faces Telemarketing Fines

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says Sports Authority used automated systems to make calls with pre-recorded sales pitches.

A judge ordered the company to stop and fined it $54,750.

Charles Bronson, Florida Agriculture Commissioner, says, “They’re a good company and they’re a good business for the state of Florida and the Tallahassee area and other parts of the state, so they’re a good business, but they have to follow the law like everyone else.”

Sports Authority admits making the calls, but denies it violated the state’s “Do Not Call List.”

The state received at least 73 complaints.
