In Tuesday night's commission meeting the board decided to hire a consultant to make recommendations on the creation of a joint city-county dispatch center.
Commissioner Ed Depuy and City Commissioner Debbie Lightsey have been seeking a solution.
Proponents of consolidation say the 9-1-1 dispatch services should all be housed under one roof, not under two as they are now.
The city will decide Wednesday whether to match the county's $12,500 for the consultant. The review is expected to take about 45 days.
