A local clinical psychologist is hoping to challenge women of color.
Dr. Sharon Ames Denard says it is time for African-American women to take on the challenges of the black community. As the director of a local, private school, she says there are many disturbing trends ranging from children struggling academically to men behind bars.
Dr. Denard says, "It should be criminal to all of us that black children are so far behind academically, and prisons are overflowing with black men. That is a crisis that falls in the laps of women."
Dr. Denard has even written a book, "Something Inside So Strong" to encourage African-American women to identify their special gift and use it to help their community.
