Both southbound lanes were closed at the intersection of 8th Avenue, and traffic was narrowed to one lane using the middle turn lane.
The break was discovered in a six inch sewer line under Monroe Street around 9 a.m., and city work crews had to literally cut into the street to get to the problem and fix it.
Repairs were finally completed around 4:30 p.m. just in time to re-open North Monroe to rush hour traffic.
