The Fight for Redistricting

Gov. Sonny Perdue is vowing to take matters into his own hands after Georgia’s attorney general refuses his request to drop a redistricting appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In a two-page reply Wednesday, Democrat Thurbert Baker told Perdue he would continue the appeal because it's, “in the best legal interests of the people of the state.''
Perdue, a Republican, says the governor determines what's in the best legal interests of the state, not the attorney general.

Years ago, ruling Democrats drew state and federal districts to boost their numbers. The GOP now controls the governor's office and state senate and wants to draw new maps.
