In its final push for this holiday season, the Christmas Connection still needs a helping hand. With only a few days left until Christmas, organizers and volunteers say they are in desperate need of children's clothing.
Janet Braun, a volunteer, says, "Children don't come to school in appropriate clothes. They come in shorts and sleeveless shirts and a lightweight jacket on a day like today, so we need warm clothing for them, socks and underwear."
The Christmas Connection collects items for more than 700 needy families for Christmas. Other items needed are food, cleaning supplies, toiletries and gifts for teenagers.
Julia Guyton, a high school student, says, "A lot of these people need it and this will be the only help they get over the holidays. I have so much more than these people and I'd like to help."
As donations drift in, Christmas Connection volunteers say their biggest plea now is getting help in packing the items.
Janet adds, "We still have 150 families to pack for. People will come in, we'll give you a list, we'll give you guidelines. Then you'll go up and down the aisles and try to find the items that those families are asking for."
Grace Guyton, a college student, says, "I always like helping people out and this seems like a really good cause. I'm not really doing anything over the break, so I thought it would be a really good idea to come here and help other people out."
Donating or packing, volunteers say it's all in the spirit of giving. Christmas Connection urges everyone to stop by the shop located on corner or Tharpe and Old Bainbridge Road in Tallahassee, or call 575-1500.
