Thursday, the republican from Orlando announced he has mailed fund-raising letters to 15,000 former donors to garnish support for the primary. McCollum lost to democrat bill nelson in the 2000 U.S. Senate race by roughly 284,000 votes.
Another republican seeking the senate seat, U.S. Rep. Mark Foley of West Palm Beach, has already raised a $2 million war chest. The seat is currently held by three-term U.S. Senator Bob Graham.
