Hurricane Kate hit the Big Bend more than 20 years ago, damaging 5,500 homes.
The Red Cross says it's the worst storm to hit our area. Many residents in Gulf and Leon County lost power for weeks.
The Red Cross wants to compile local stories, local information and photos into an online database.
Chris Floyd, Director of the Capital Area Red Cross, says, "I'm sure there are a lot of photographs form 20 years ago about when this storm was striking, damage after the storm, how individuals families, neighborhoods pulled together. What a neat idea to capture all this together and use it as our archive of it can happen here.”
If you have anything you'd like to submit, simply call the local Red Cross at 850-878-6080.
