Alcohol Sales Up as 2006 Begins

Managers at ABC Liquors say champagne sales are usually up on New Year's Eve, but they also add that this year, more customers have purchased their New Year's Eve beverages in advance of the actual holiday, making it less crowded at the stores Saturday.

"But through out the whole month of December, because it's such a season of celebration and looking forward to the new year and times with friends and times with family, you really see a lot of increases, especially in the champagne sales and even regular wine sales, beer sales just across the board," says ABC Liquors wine consultant David Malone.

Malone also tells us that many people splurge on alcohol on New Year's Eve, buying larger quantities and more expensive alcohol than usual.
