If having children is in your near future, then health advocates are hoping to get your attention next week.
Starting Monday the March of Dimes and the Department of Health will be focusing on Folic Acid Awareness Week. Studies show folic acid can prevent 70 percent of neural tube defects.
Penelope Tiam-Fook says, "Families who are thinking about becoming pregnant should be aware of it in a sense that women and men should take folic acid before becoming pregnant and during the pregnancy."
On Wednesday the 11th the March of Dimes will be handing out multi-vitamins and folic acid educational materials. Distribution begins at 2:30 p.m. and will be at the Leon County Health Department on Old Bainbridge Road.
