Will NASA Fly Again?

Updated: Wed 10:02 AM, Feb 12, 2003

As NASA continues to search for answers to the space shuttle Columbia tragedy, many people around the country want to know what’s next for the United States' space program

When the space shuttle Challenger exploded back in 1986, more than 11,000 Floridians lost their jobs after NASA stopped shuttle missions during a three year period.

Now Gov. Jeb Bush says he's also wondering when the next shuttle will fly again.

"I asked about when the next launch would be and there was no estimation at that time,” Gov. Bush says.

There's been concern from Bush and legislators that Florida’s space coast will face an economic downturn as a result of the Columbia tragedy.
