A few local companies move up the business ladder through the support of the program, "First Focus on Local Business."
Four businesses were recognized by the Economic Development Council of Leon County for their expansions.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants have been awarded to the businesses to assist in training current workers.
Bill Law, chairman of the Leon County Economic Development Council, says, “We are working through other agencies that can tap into state dollars and federal dollars to bring these dollars to our community, so if we're talking about are things working, the answer is they're working quite well."
The Economic Development Council says the focus is not just on bringing outside businesses to town, but expanding those already here.
