Illegal Traps Set in Gadsden County

A fisherman made a disturbing discovery at Leon County's Vause Landing. Earlier this week, someone set up an illegal steel trap, and a four-month-old raccoon wound up in it.

A fisherman spotted the raccoon, and told a park volunteer about it, but three days later it was still there.

The folks at St. Francis Wildlife Fefuge rescued the raccoon and are trying to rehab it, hoping the infected and grossly swollen leg will heal.

Not only are steel traps like this outlawed but it's illegal to place them on the county and state lands which surround Vause Landing. It'll take several weeks, possibly months to get this little guy ready for the wild again.
