Local Group Leads Fight Against Poverty Nationwide

Dorothy Inman-Johnson of the Capital Area Community Action Agency was returning from Washington, D.C. where she spoke with more than 15 lawmakers about what she sees as Florida's inadequate funding for the poor.

She says even though Florida has the country's fourth highest population and poverty rate, the state gets the least per capita for the poor.

Dorothy Inman-Johnson says, "This is an issue that both Democrats and Republicans can join hands to fight together to make sure Florida's poor get their fair share of dollars and that Florida's citizens get their fair share of dollars returned to our state."

Inman-Johnson hopes to speak before legislators again during committee meetings to allocate funding for the nation's poor.
